This week, my husband and I will be embarking on a 1200-mile road trip (with a dog in tow) from our home in Rhode Island back to our home in Pompano Beach, Florida, with a stop at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando to kick off our son’s sophomore year. Go Knights!
August is a time when many people travel for vacation, move kids into college, or move into a new home. Just like so many other life events, these things can present a challenge to staying true to our health and fitness goals.
But rather than looking at this as burdensome and trying to figure out how to stick to your current workout program in a different environment, it can be refreshing to put the usual routine on the back burner and commit to trying something new. The key is to find something you are excited about trying that you don’t normally do. Here are a few ideas:
A nature walk, hike, or trail run
Kayaking
Paddleboarding
Tubing along river rapids (I did this in New Hampshire - totally exhilarating!!!)
Yoga/meditation on the beach, lake, forest, or anywhere outdoors
Group class at your hotel or resort - just for the fun of it
Take a hang gliding lesson (I did this at the Outer Banks of North Carolina)
Climb an indoor rock wall (Cool to do if it’s raining)
Aerial obstacle course (Found a great one in Montana)
Bowling
Golf
Pickleball
As you can see, “fitness” doesn’t necessarily translate into intensity, but it can if you want it to! The point is to look forward to and get excited about whatever activity you do instead of seeing fitness as a “chore”. Who knows? You may find a new activity that you love and want to continue once you return to your usual routine.
This week’s workout is a repost from the 2023 Summer Workout Series, designed to be done on the go, requires minimal equipment and space, and can even be done outside. This is 30 minutes of solid fitness! Don’t be shy! Grab some friends and neighbors to join in … and don’t forget to ask them to subscribe!

If a boot-camp workout isn’t what you are looking for today, try some Yin Yoga!

Its core principles include targeting the connective tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, to improve flexibility and circulation. If you are an active woman or competitive midlife athlete who feels abandoned by mainstream medicine, I’m here for you!
It is with great excitement that after more than 2 years of preparation, I have FINALLY launched my Telehealth Consultation Medical practice focusing on the Reproductive Endocrine needs and Menopausal Care for active, athletic, and high-performing women.
Active and athletic midlife women have needs and risk profiles that are different from the general population. These needs often go unmet by the mainstream medical community due to a lack of understanding of fitness and sport and their impact on mid-life hormonal physiology or even a lack of acknowledgment that this dynamic exists. We put your health, fitness, and performance at the center of the equation so that you can achieve your healthiest, highest-performing self!
You will find all my service offerings on my website including a link to my calendar so that you can reserve your place in my schedule!
Thanks so much! :)
